David Castillo announced today his final fundraising totals for the fourth quarter, which gives him a YTD total of $104,172 in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District race. The fourth quarter report shows Castillo as the only Republican candidate to have raised a total of over $100,000 in the race. His $73,457 cash on hand (COH) is also the most among Republicans.

One point that does bear mentioning, however, is that in addition to displaying a deeper understanding of health care policy, in particular, than many Republicans - and a more overt commitment to advancing conservative health care policy rather than just blocking or undoing liberal reform - Castillo also has some different political heroes from what one typically hears out of Republican congressional candidates.

The recent disclosure of Senator Harry Reid's racially insensitive comments regarding then presidential candidate Barack Obama have again shown a glaring double-standard...Democratic leadership has all to often used the term racist in an attempt to silence political opponents and now we see that these type of conversations are had behind closed doors. It is time we get beyond party affiliation and simply look at what people actually say.

...Castillo has promoted what he refers to as "Common Sense Solutions" to spur economic growth and job creation. They are: Oppose “Cap and Trade” legislation that will decimate businesses; Limit growth in government spending to the rate of inflation; Lower the payroll tax; Lower the corporate income tax; Reduce or eliminate capital gains taxes. Castillo would eventually like to see the current tax code replaced with a Fair Tax.

Castillo, who estimates unemployment is running at 15 percent in the 3rd district, said jobs is the No. 1 issue for the district, and he thinks most voters do not want Nancy Pelosi as speaker and will turn to someone like him. He said his own background as Navy veteran and Bush-era appointee to the Department of Homeland Security make him more equipped to deal with national security issues that are arising since last month's terrorist incident...

WASHINGTON, DC The free-market grassroots group Americans for Prosperity (AFP) today applauded U.S. House candidate David Castillo, running in Washington’s Third District, for signing the group’s “No Climate Tax Pledge.” By doing so, Castillo joins more than 300 candidates and lawmakers on the federal, state and local levels pledging to “oppose legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue.”
