Olympia, WA - In an attempt to moderate her position of supporting tax increases, Rep. Deb Wallace (D-Vancouver) has pulled her bill that would have allowed Washington State to collect sales tax on out-of-state residents.
This decision comes only after Wallace declared she is running for Congress this year. In December, she told the House Finance Committee that the bill would be reintroduced this year; however, as small business owners from throughout the Vancouver area began to educate the representative on the negative impact her actions would have on job creation, she decided to “kill the bill.”
In an article from The Columbian today (Wallace withdraws sales tax bill amid concerns), Wallace admits she “wasn’t necessarily thinking about the wholesale impact of the bill” and that she hadn’t done her “homework” before proposing this legislation.
“(Rep. Wallace) admits to a fundamental lack of understanding regarding tax policy and how it ultimately impacts small business,” states Christine Webb, spokesperson for the campaign of David Castillo. “The 3rd Congressional District faces nearly 15% unemployment, we cannot afford to send someone to Congress that needs homework assignments in order to learn how the private sector works.”
David Castillo, who works as a financial advisor with Edward Jones, has made job creation a central piece of his campaign since he first announced his candidacy in May of last year. He has consistently supported fundamental tax reform and called for a complete review of all regulations imposed on the private sector by federal bureaucracies that are unaccountable to voters.
During his time at Citizens for a Sound Economy (Now: FreedomWorks), Castillo educated groups throughout the state of Washington on the subject of tax reform, which included the need to abolish the Death Tax.
“It has been shown time and time again, that when we remove the shackles of unnecessary government regulations and overly burdensome taxes, small businesses will grow, create jobs and prosper,” says Castillo. “We must never lose sight of the fact that it is the private sector that produces prosperity for the individual – not government.”
Castillo is a veteran of the United States Navy and he currently makes his home in Olympia with his wife Callie and their four-year-old son Caidan.
