Mike McKay, who served as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington from 1989-1993, has today announced his endorsement of David Castillo, who is running for Congress in Washington's 3rd District.
During his time as U.S. Attorney, McKay reorganized the office to more efficiently handle specialized types of cases involving drugs, environmental crime and bank fraud. He began his career as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for King County in 1976 and played a principal role in the 1978 implementation of the innovative Washington State Juvenile Justice Act.
McKay's interest in public service has led him to work for many local, state and national groups. In 2008, he and his brother, John, were presented with the Charles A. Goldmark Distinguished Service Award from the Legal Foundation of Washington. He is a member and current president of the National Association of Former United States Attorneys.
McKay is a graduate of the University of Washington (1973) and Creighton University School of Law (1976).
Regarding Castillo, McKay states, "The United States Congress needs serious, qualified leaders who will make sound decisions for the American people. David Castillo is this type of leader. His experience and integrity will be a great asset to the residents of the 3rd Congressional District and all of Washington State."
"I am truly honored to have the support of a leader of the caliber of Mike McKay," says Castillo. "His lifetime of service to his community and our country is both extraordinary and admirable."
Castillo, who declared his candidacy well before the surprise announcement that incumbent Congressman Brian Baird would not seek re-election, continues to add to his list of supporters with today's announcement.
Castillo is a veteran of the United States Navy and worked in the administration of President George W. Bush at the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Homeland Security. He is originally from Centralia, Washington and holds a Bachelors Degree from the University Washington and a Masters Degree from Gonzaga University.
David and his wife Callie make their home in Olympia with their son Caidan.
