The Olympian: Governor, others react to Senate health vote

David Castillo, an Olympia-based financial planner running as a Republican in the increasingly crowded 3rd Congressional District race said, in part:

Our elected officials in Washington D.C. should be focusing on reining in the out-of-control cost of health care, increasing access to those not covered, and ensuring that those of us happy with our coverage can keep it. This is what they promised us and they have yet to deliver. Instead, they have chosen to steal $500 billion from Medicare – from a promise we made to our parents and grandparents. In addition, the Senate bill includes a government mandate that will force Americans to purchase health insurance or face a fine, or jail time. It is an unconscionable overreach of government authority that I believe will be deemed unconstitutional.

The Association of Washington Business earlier this week recommended dropping the legislation and starting over.
