Health Care
Health Care in the United States remains the envy of the world, but health care costs are spiraling out of control. Steps must be taken to rein in costs, and these reforms can be done without turning health care over to the federal government or setting up a government insurance program wherein the government competes with private insurers. The United States does not need to look to the failed health insurance models in Canada and Great Britain to come up with ideas for reform. We are the most creative and innovative people in the world, and we can create a system of reforms that lower costs and expand access.
Common Sense Solutions:
Expand and promote Health Savings Accounts, which allow the individual to control their own health care dollars
NOT the government.
Expand Association Health Plans.
Allow people to purchase health insurance like they purchase auto insurance -- across state lines.
Reduce payroll taxes. Most Americans get their health insurance through their employer. Incentivize business
to provide insurance coverage by lowering their rates, or by providing tax credits.
Reform the tax laws so that individually owned and employer provided health insurance have the same
tax benefits.
Repeal government mandates on what insurers are required to cover. The individual policy owner should decide
what is needed for themselves and their families.
Lawsuit abuse regarding medical malpractice cases must also be addressed. However, this should be addressed
as a separate issue, so it receives the detailed attention it deserves and is not treated as an 'afterthought'
to health care reform.
